In the global effort to tackle plastic pollution, Design for Recycling has become a widely recognized key technical approach. The core idea behind this concept is to improve product design so that plastic products can smoothly enter the correct recycling and regeneration streams after consumption, and be regenerated into new raw materials.

Internationally, North America, Europe, Australia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and South Africa have established guidelines or principles for the Design for Recycling of plastic products based on the characteristics of their respective plastic recycling and regeneration systems. China's exploration began in 2019 when the China Plastics Reuse and Recycling Association (CPRRA) first introduced this concept domestically, releasing a series of related standards and initiating the formulation of several industry standards and national standards to align with international practices.

Today, brands, retailers, packaging supply chains, automotive manufacturers and electronics companies are actively promoting Design for Recycling to improve the recyclability of products. With the joint efforts of various industries, an era of Design for Recycling is coming.
